When the time comes, English will be something that you'll want to learn, and something that you'll strive to get a handle on. Once you realize its value as it relates to your career and career advancement you'll jump at the opportunity. Coming to a new city to learn English is a life-changing opportunity, one that many people can't afford. Certainly not everyone needs to learn English, but if it's important for the advancement of your career then it might as well be something you focus on.

The world is unique with each of its own languages but it's made better when people know more than one way to communicate. Certainly English "shouldn't" be the single most global language -- there are many other far-reaching and important languages -- but it happens to be turning out that the more people who know English have a better chance at advancing their career.

Don't let the city keep you in! While Boston has many things to offer, there are lots of places you can go outside of Boston. The neighboring towns are also very nice, as are the people who live there. I'd recommend you get a bicycle while here and use it to travel to nearby cities. As you meet more people (and ask for more directions) you'll have new opportunities to practice what you're learning.

Learning English can be tough, and it takes commitment. But truly, it can be achieved if you're willing to focus on the end-result. The end result is personal and career advancement, satisfaction with yourself, accessibility with places and experiences that require a knowledge of English, and fo course integration with a community that speaks English as their main language.
